School me on E30 wiring and standalone management

So with the turbo build I'm obviously going to have to go to a standalone ECU.
I've got a few questions about stuff.

As far as I understand E30 wiring (not much) it's got a chassis harness and an engine harness and these interface through a plug.
Now to fit standalone, I understand that I'll bin the engine harness and wire the new ECU up to the sensors and fit new sensors where required (probably a MAP for example).
Is this the correct way of doing it? Will everything chassis side still work without the engine harness connected? As in, how does the tachometer get its signal, through the harness or another wire?

The ECU I'm planning on using is a Haltech, will I have to fit all new sensors or can it use the factory sensors like CPS etc?

    Thanks!

Haltech is a great system.. But why not run a Plug n Play Megasquirt unit? I ran MS2V3 and it worked great for turbo'd system. The system also had a built-in MAP sensor which is a huge plus. Just my 2 cents versus hacking up your harness and pinning the wires all out.

Haltech is going to offer you way more programmability and reliability then MS will. The wiring really isn't that hard. Find an ETM for your year car/engine and find the DME plug pinout. Look at the pinout of the Haltech ecu and get yourself some high quality wire and crimp connectors.
For things like accurate oil pressure, coolant pressure, fuel pressure, etc. you will have to buy aftermarket senders. (Best to use whatever Haltech recommends) and will probably keep them separate from your main engine harness.
Haltech should have no problem calibrating to the stock main sensors, CPS, Cam position, coolant temp, road speed, etc.
