    S14 rebuild

    Hello,

    S14 engines are infamous for the cost of parts. I would like to discuss some of them. There are lots of parts taht are cross-used in BMW.
    For example oil pump.
    Also there are parts hatjust fit the S14, like the e36 chain tentioner (spring and piston). Some times the price differences are op to 10x

    If there is someone that is familiar with two engines S14B23 and M10B20
    The M10B20 engine uses double chain, thus the queston. Will the lower chain tentioner fit S14? Also, by the pictures the chain rails are almost identical.
    Will they fit?
    I am building S14, so the questionis will M10B20 parts fit S14.

    Any info apeciated, there are only afew engines in my neck of the woods (both types) so it is basically impossible for me to check it myself.

    I heard the same thing but cannot verify this. I don't have experience with M10 pumps. I do know for a fact that the 318i oil pump gear is thinner and should not be used in the M3. I think this is where a lot of issues arise, when people start using M10 parts thinking they are the same. There are some parts that are the exact same and some that aren't. It begs the question...what else is different? oil pressure? probably. I have seen many people rebuild S14 engines but typically use S14 pumps or Sport Evo pumps. I don't recall anyone simply using the M10 pump. Seems like a big gamble considering the cost of the S14.






    It appears that BMW now offers the same 11411286493 (superceded) oil pump for M10/S14 which may be the NLA sport Evo pump. I don't recall the part number. This is what you get when you buy new through BMW. This doesn't mean if you find a used one somewhere, it will be the same.

      Just a quick replay, the gear/sprocket of the oil pump used in s14 is interchangeable with m30 engine. It is thicker and definetly the way to go.
      The oil pressure... Inner and outer rotor of the s14 oil pump are the same as in the pump nent for m10.
      As there is only one cirquit in my home country, for the racing and it is 140+ km away. This car will not be tracked anyway.
