1987 325 having trouble with brake lights

All 3 brake lights in my uncle's E30 stopped working a couple weeks ago. He found out when people would honk and tell him when he was driving. As far as he knows, the L and R sides, as well as the 3rd brake light, all went out at the same time.

So far, he's tried replacing the #6 fuse and the bulbs, and nothing works. Could it be the brake light switch going bad? Thanks.

could be the switch or a loose wire or broken splice.

I'm going to see if I can take out my brake light switch and put it in his car to see if it works. How can you check for a loose wire? Where would you begin to look?

BTW, would a bad swtich loose connection turn on the "brake light" indicator overhead?

you can check for a loose wire by checking for continuity when the brake pedal is pressed using an ohm meter. the wire that runs from the fuse to the brakes is the best place to start.
