    Cruise control won't turn off

My cruise control just started to stay on whenever I hit the brakes.
works fine with the clutch though.
New stoplight switch that is confirmed working and is adjusted correctly.
Connection cleaned for that and the brake light control module in the trunk.
Other than not turning off when brakes applied everything works fine.

Any suggestions? What else to check? Loose wire?
I am stumped at this point.

is your new switch designed for cars with cruise?

CC uses stoplight switch to inhibit CC. The wire going to the CC is probably not connected. Since that is your most recent change, I would suspect that. You might need to test the voltage logic and compare with ETM.

The stoplight switch was replaced as a first try to fix this problem.
So it started before I replaced it. Also it doesn't do it all the time.
        just most of the time.

CC is disabled by the brake switch (and clutch switch) removing the ground on the green/red wire when the pedal is pushed in. Make sure that wire is not intermittently shorted to ground somewhere. This would keep it from disengaging.

But the brake lights work perfectly. Would a short to ground not also affect that? Or is there a separate ground that is only around the CC unit?

UPDATE. my brake lights do not work perfectly.
driving home tonight was the first time at night
and i could see that my brake lights only worked
some of the time and the CC worked perfectly
when the lights were working but not when they
              were not working.
sounds to me that i have a grounding problem
              like vpilarrt suggested earlier.

so the question becomes, what and where
are the most likely culprits for this?
i can do without CC for awhile but not without
              brake lights.

can i tap one side of the stoplight switch
into a reliable source of power so that i
can be sure that that power source is
interrupting ground at the CC unit and also
running my brake lights at the same time?

I think i have it fixed now.
the connector on the back of the stop light switch was
loose. when i jiggled the connector when the brakes were
applied the green/red wire would go back to ground and
                the lights would go off.

I tightened the connector lugs and used some dielectric
grease in there and so far no problems. i will update again
after a good long drive tonight
