    Tach ID Help

Hey guys I just need a little help figuring out what I have...

What I do know is I pulled my cluster from a 1987 325e and it has a 5k tach and white back to the cluster. Both are labeled motometer however the cluster surround front piece is labeled VDO (I don't think that matters).

I bought a 7k tach to swap in that is supposedly an "early 7K tach...with coding plug." Description copied from message while I was buying it. I went to install the 7k tach but it definitely doesn't line up.

Can someone point me in the direction if it is possible to install or if I just got an incorrect tach? Attempting to switch b27 to b25 so the tach would be nice. If it doesn't fit, can I continue to use the 5k tach just knowing I can rev higher than whats labeled??

7k tach on left. 5k tach on right.

    Thanks

the one on the left in the bottom picture is an early tach. I'm pretty sure you need the standard 7k tach from a later cluster.

you could swap the tach face from the 7k tach to your eta, and then just get a 325i coding plug. The tach itself is the same.

Thanks Nando, I had a spare cluster from a 1986e tucked away in my basement that my 7k tach fit into. I switched over the speedo too because that odometer works. Looks like thisll work out for me.
