    an intake mod that works!

well folks, ive done it, im a genius.

ive found an intake that i could actually feel a difference.

    control: stock airbox

trial 1: k&n box filter = little performance difference, pretty much a new sound is all u get.

trial 2: k&n box filter + no air horn thing = nothing difference from trial 1

trial 3: cone filter w/o heatshield = i noticed a roar instead of a whine. little if any, performance difference than trial 1 and 2.

trial 4: cone filter w/ heatshield = same as trial 3

trial 5: k&n box filer + no air horn + open lower box = finnaly i found something that i could feel rather than just hear.

    winner - TRIAL 5
i could finnaly feel a real difference, keep in mind it wasnt much... but it was there. Also there is a new distinct roar coming from the intake (sounds good )

    pictures of the winner :D

i smoothed out the edges a bit after i took the pics FYI.

p.s. it was about 30 degreeze today so heatshields werent much of a concern. also, i have a jim c chip so that could have affected the way my car enjoys the air.

dont hate me because i have 2 much time

    enjoy :D

IF you read that filter comparison then it would be better using the stock BMW air filter in that setup.
    Im now E30less.

do you think you would get colder air this way or with a cone/heatshield. For some reason i can only see that sucking in hot air.

                exactally!
at about 3500-4500 it REALLY roars. 4500+ engine noise takes over but u can defintally still hear it.

Now if you could create some ducting to isolate the open airbox from the engine side, but leave the headlight shroud off to get cold air in, you would be all set.

That's a cool idea. I may just need to put that to use.

Something that could be possible is still using the bottom half of the airboz that was cutoff, but cutting that off more, so there's still an opening. But, that way, cold air can still get in there.

Yeah, it would still get air from the enegine compartment, maybe try making a special heatsheild that fits right under the airbox, to suck air from outside only.

                            I guess I'm just brainstorming outloud. ;)
