Burnt fuel pump? or any other ideas

Last night I was driving around when my empty light went on. I didnt have my wallet and I didnt really have to go far so I figured I would fill up today. I decide to go get some food from work quick then fill up, so I drive to work and back to my house with the e-light still on. About 4 houses away from my house the car starts stuttering and im like oh shit im lower than I thought I was. So I park it.

Just now I filled up a 5 gallon gas can and poured it in. Drove the car around a bit and it was acting fine. Again about a block away from my house it does the same thing now. I hit the gas and its reeeallly slow like its not getting gas.

I am assuming its a burnt pump, 219k and I dont think I have a record of it being changed. I would like to pull my codes but the stupid plug fell down and melted on my headers, I cant get it unscrewed lol.

So does anyone have another idea of what it could be before I repalce it? My buddy said I could have air in my lines but I figured that would present itself before it started running good, not after.

I should mention I replaced the fuel filter right after this happened, and watching my AFR I could see it run fine then plummet to lean and eventuall off the guage because of no gas I am assuming.

No clue on how to help you, but I've run my e30 dry and the only problem was it was a bitch to get started again, but that was at least 1.5+ years ago, and it still runs strong on the same fuel pump to this day.
BTW - I'm pretty sure my car is in the 300k+ range and I doubt any PO replaced the fuel pump, cause they sure didn't do any other maintenance.

If you keep running with the fuel light on you're asking for it. If you run out of fuel it may start right up after adding but the damage has been done as the fuel acts as a coolant/lubricant. Mine went out at 135K and I admit I let the car sit too much and routinely drive with the warning light on. It's a bad habit that I'll be breaking.

Well my cluster wasnt working when I ran out of gas, I never let my car go below 1/2 tank, I only ran out that once.

If you drive a car with carbs your a lot safer (I think)

What happens when you run out of fuel is that all the crap that has been sitting in the tank finaly gets a chance to go through your pump or clog your filter. I would first replace your fuel filter this is most likely your problem. If this doesn't fix it take your intank pump out and check it, you won't hurt it running dry for a second.

That was my first thought, I did replace the fuel filter but it did not help. Looking at my AFR guage I can see when the fuel cuts out, the AFR is all the way lean and goes off the guage.

get some carb cleaner and pull out a vacume line... spray into the intake man. while sum1s trying to crank it... if it starts then dies as soon as u stop spraying then its your fuel pump
