What's this wire?

There is a wire (actually two wires in the insulation - light brown and blue) that was wrapped up and taped to the expansion tank of my new to me '91 325ix. It is clearly frayed and not functioning. It is long enough to reach to about the middle of the radiator. It is tied with a large group of wires but remains separate all the back to the firewall. It has it's own hole through the firewall.

Can anyone tell me what it is for?

I ajve an early car so it's laid out differently, but I do have a spare connector like that one that ends right next to my CC module. If everything is functioning it may just be extra.

Outside air temperature sensor for the 6 or 13 button on board computer.

Does yours display a temperature of -22'F? That would be the proof.

Member georgegraves sells a replacement temperature probe that you can attach to those wires.

agree with 101 ,looks like outside temp sensor wires, and its normal for it to have fallen out/knocked out on curb and then dragged along pavement till its gone and wires end up frayed

Thanks! Yeah that makes sense given how long the wire is. The 6 button in mine is dead. No lights at all. I'm looking for a 13 button replacement.

I've got a spare 13 button I'm trying to sell! The light bar needs to be replaced but the obc itself is still in working condition last time I tested it. Let me know if you're interested!

If you're going to do the conversion from the 6 button setup, you will need the whole "kit" - the 13 button OBC computer display, the wiring harness, the OBC computer module black box, the turn signal stalk (optional), and the outside horn (optional).
