Electric antenna woes

The problem is the antenna motor does work and it will pull down the antenna when I shut the car off, but when I turn it back on with the radio on it won't go back up. This is electrical most likely cause if I unplug the power connector and fiddle with it the mast will go back up when the cars on. I had previously just put it up and removed the plug so it just stayed up, but I am trying to get everything working. Could it be the little circuit board or something or bad contacts on the plug? I just don't understand how it will power down and retract but not go back up without fiddling with the plug.

I am going to go fiddle with it some more but any suggestions would be very helpful.

Been really doing a lot to the car lately after kind of ignoring it for a long time due to personal issues. Just trying to get everything sorted.

Definitely just a loose connection if i plug it in just right it works, I hit it with electrical cleaner and it seems to be working alright now, I am sure after some spirited driving it will stop working again lol.

cracked solder

yup just had this happen on my IX , remove the board and look really closely at the solder joint on underside (magnifying glass helps),i found two of the larger ones cracked completely in a circle around the pin ,reflowed them and all is well now

this is usually all that is wrong with the power antenna's that folks give up on

Thanks I will check that out. I just replaced the grommet and that was a bitch now I don't feel like pulling the antenna out again lol.

Boards fine, it's so weird I cleaned up all the connections and it works but if the plug moves a certain way it doesn't. I really have no idea what it could be at this point. Maybe the inside of the plug connectors are corroded. They seemed fine though. It is working right now but I am sure it will stop here soon. Motors fine, everythings fine, plug is fucked but looks fine, sense this makes none.

yea could be the connector or a broken wire (worth cleaning them and applying some dielectric grease) ,and remember as you move the connector you could be flexing the board which could cause a bad connection on it to appear

i need to do the grommet on mine now too as it cracked after reinstalling the antenna ....

There ar a couple of different control board designs and one has separate contacts to co troll up and down. If you have those check to see they are clean
