    rear shock mounts

my rear shock mounts are dying and i need to know a few things.

can i replace them myself with just a jack and some wrenches, or will i need a spring compressor?

are these any good? are there better aluminum shock mounts??

are there any related wear items that go out about the same time that i should check?

These are the easiest to replace.

      Jack up rear of car
undo bolt that holds the shocks to the wheel assembly
---this releases pressure from the rear spring
undo the 2 nuts that hold the rear shock mount to the car
      shock should fall out.
undo the bolt that holds the shock to the rear shock mount.
Notice there are washers on each side of the rear shock mount.
      replace rear shock mount.
      reassemble.

New item you can buy if you want are the self locking nuts that hold the rear shock mount to the shock.

lots of choices cheaper (or similar in price) than your suggestion:

        BMW "Repair shop" Mounts
        ground control
Ireland Engineering (come with reinforcement plate <-- good value)
        TC Kline
        Bimmerworld
        BavAuto
        Turner
JT-designs (very trick, Turner sells them too)

Personally I'd go JTD or Ireland, Ireland throws in the $22 reinforcement plate which any 20 year old e30 can use for free makes it the best value in my mind. Knowing IE's reputation for slow turnaround I'd look to see if flyingbrick or BMA resells them

E36 mounts will work as well. I got the "HD" E36 mounts from BMA. They are fine. Unless I was gonna track the car I'd have a hard time droping over $100 on shock mounts.........
