What's the best Cold Air Intake for an e30?

My tech suggested a CAI and chip as the next mods for my car but he told me to make sure I got an intake kit that WORKED. He just pulled a crappy one off my buddy's car (the PO was not smart) and doesn't want to deal with any more poorly designed intakes. Any ideas would be awesome!

    Thanks,
    Brendan

I think that these guys have confirmed that the original setup is best.

The stock airbox, with either a K&N panel filter, or reportedly even better than that, is a stock Mahle paper filter.

I have a K&N panel myself, only because there was a brand-fucking-new one in the last parts car I bought.

I spent too much time and money on a "cai" only to revert to stock box & K&N.

Does anyone know if a M30 airbox will fit in a E30 engine bay? I tried to get my stock airbox to mount up to my M30 AFM but there is not enough room. Thanks

the mahle only flows better than a k&n when its new kuz three miles after you start driving its gunna get dirty and flow worse than the k&n

im considering getting a cold air set up as well but the only way is to have a heatshield (which i have) all i need is the cone and an adapter

Having a nice cone setup with a pretty looking heat shield is only really good for 2 things. The sound (if you like that), and it looks cool in the engine bay. Seriously, the best way to go is what I said already.

Alright, so having ruled out a CAI and already planning on a chip, what else could I affordably do to my engine to make a few more horsepower?

wont give you more hp but will make you go faster

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

I had great results with 19lb 4pintle injectors, MarkD chip and a K&N.

I've done shocks and springs, brake upgrades are next, then followed by swaybars and strut braces. Somewheres in there I will tweak the engine as my budget allows.
