    Driveshaft question

How much adjustment is there in the driveshafts, in other words how much longer can you make them if you loosen that nut in the middle and sperate the two halfs?

Not much, like an inch or so, why? Oh and if you are going to unscrew that piece may i suggest buying a new one.

dam I was hoping for three inches. So I should replace that nut? I need to split the shaft anyways to install a new center bearing.

He's probably refering to the plastic sleeve under the nut.
I dont see a reason to replace it unless its destroyed.

Make sure you mark the splines before you split the drive shaft, its balanced as one.

BMW NA recommends you replace it every time. It is a crush bushing and can be mis-shapen when torqued down. The part is like 12 bucks with a new nut. Just do it.
