Wipers don't park in the correct spot

Any ideas? Should i Just replace the motors? I replaced the relay in the fuse box and it does the same thing. They work fine otherwise, they just park 45* off when i turn the wipers off.

This is for a 318is with m50 swap that I just bought.

Do they ever go lower than 45 degrees? Like, do they wipe too far to the driver side and always stay above the 45 degree point, or do they wipe the windshield in the correct place but just stop 45degrees after they are supposed to stop?

they wipe the full profile and the ends are correct. They just rest in the wrong position when the wipers are off. I'm sure i'm bound to wreck them cause i use them when it rains and they i just push then down to the cowl when its nice out. haha

Sounds to me like the main connection at the motor hub is stripped. It either needs a new linkage connection or a new motor assembly. Good luck and let us know what you find.

FYI, it's a bad idea to force the arms by hand. Often times you will strip out the arms or bend/break linkage.

You shouldn't be able to park the wipers by hand, if you can then something is not right with the wiper transmission.

The park position is fixed by a contact disc inside the motor, the disc has a segment cut out that breaks connection to 2 wiper contacts when the missing segment is reached, the disc is fixed so I can't imagine a problem there.

So: Take a look at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_0885

The wiper motor bolts (7) could be loose.
The 2 connector cups (6) & (8) could be worn.
The sector drive arm (4) is loose or worn.
The motor drive worm or gear could be worn.
The transmission is worn or bent.

You'll need to get in there and check it out.

Mine are really worn on the Pro3 car, and park way high. They have so much slop they'll
push down to below a normal park position.

I'd swap the thing, but I hold onto this little delusion that the lower park position is
              an illegal competitive advantage.

It's just worn out, really, and I'm too lazy to replace it.

It turned out to be a very simple fix. Everything was tight and working properly, but the mechanism bolted to the main motor shaft was out of position as well as the position of the wiper arms to the mechanism. It just took some work since I have an m50 swap and with the harness and strut bar there wasn't much room. Once I got off my lazy but it was ok.

Here is how I fixed it.

Run the wipers and mark the end positions on their sweep. The lower position is where you want to adjust the mechanism relative to the motor. Access the motor and use a 10mm 1/4" ratchet and loosen the main nut. Uncoupling the electrical connector gave me more room You should be able to move the linkage system without rotating the motor. Move the wipers to the lower marked position you made earlier and tighten the main bolt.

The parked position and the lower sweep position should be the same now. If it's not, repeat the first part. It doesn't matter if the wipers don't park in the right spot. They just need to park in the same position of the lower sweep. Once you get that right just remove the wiper arms and reposition them to the correct spots. Tighten everything back up.
