C191 - The plug of satan

For anyone out there with C191 connector problems, I just replaced mine with one of these:

The seller also provides a good set of photographic instructions. This plug is fiddly to install on the car but goes together well, you just need to take your time crimping the wires - particularly at the main engine harness end which is bloody awkward to get at. I resealed the harness with 3M heatshrink and 3M 130C rubber self sealing tape.

My C191 was a mess full of green crud and broken wires, I have the endpoint to endpoint connection info if anyone needs it.

    Nice.

Also here is a catalog of AMP/TYCO round connectors for anyone curious; they were the OEM for BMW's harness connectors back then.

Thanks, the connector I used is a temporary measure - I didn't want to just splice wires together.

If I can find the correct plugs I plan to build a new head harness long enough to relocate the connector up on the firewall out of harms way.

AMP/TYCO still makes most of the BMW connectors

nothing wrong with what you used, should work as a permanent solution. the stock connector is indeed poorly designed, they should have at least installed rubber grommets on the lines so water didn't get inside the contacts. you might be able to do that with a stock connector and new pins but what's the point - an aftermarket waterproof connector will work just as well.
