    Spark plug wires

How does one know when they require replacing? How long do they generally last?

Until they show noticable cracking/wear. It can be an upgrade to go to bigger wires, but generaly, if you don't also upgrade veryting else, you won't notice a difference.

wrooooong. Grassroots replaced their wires on the project 318is and they got about 5hp IIRC. And their wires looked fine, no cracking or anything.

Yep, unless you can see damage, you'll need to measure the resistance. Considering how expensive they are, its worth the taking the time to do that.
