    heater bypassed?

So I bought my 325es 2 years ago and the heater has been bypassed by the previous owners. I was wondering if there is anyway to know if the heater is cracked. On cold nights I can feel cool air coming from the vents. is that a sign that it is cracked?

any tips to find out if it is?

Pour some water in the heater pipes to see if it leaks.

The way to tell if your heater core is broken is to connect it to the motor and try to run it. I had an old saab which had a failing heater core and coolant would leak out every so often from the middle-front of the car. Just hook it up and pay attention to where the leaks are.

okay so I added water through the heater core holes, and so far no leaks. so now how do I reattach the hoses? does it matter which hose goes to what hole?

I would be willing to bet it is cracked, or why would it be bypassed? it might not leak with cold water, but it probably will with hot water under pressure.
