318is front sway bar bushings install

Any tricks on installing the front sway bar bushings?

I've searched and searched but don't see any DIY for this.
I bought oem replacement bushings and they do not compress enough to even come close to get the nut started. Having to insert the front tab and then hinging back to the bolt looks like it requires two people to line up each side at the same time. I have even tried lowering the car so the jack is on the bushing bracket, still not getting it.
I do not have a lift.
It's about 30 degrees max in my garage, so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Did you buy new brackets? They're cheap and I always suggest replacing them when doing new bushings.

Funny. I asked this a few days back and response. Same issue for me.

I read to use vice grips, close the gap. First time I've seen the idea to buy new brackets. I may do just that.

$5 each. Dealer will have them in Tuesday.

Easy enough. I hope it makes the job easier.

Have some oatmeal for breakfast band then use vice grips. Will need a lot of force, but it's doable.

Yea I tried vice grips and c clamps but I think the rubber is just too darn cold. I'll warm them up and try again.
I didn't even think to order new brackets, but they aren't in that bad of shape so I'll try to make them work.

I used a floor jack and a 2x4 to push it up.

Boil 'em.

Use bits of all- thread to get them sucked down, then put in the bolts.
If you can find metric all- thread.

The jack trick works, too.
