E30 Airbag wheel: yay or nay?

I always wondered if this first generation airbag could save your life, or potentially end it? Were these airbags very safe and don't explode at 800 mph...?

Is it worth saving for the sake of safety, or should I move onto a M-Tech II wheel and let my seatbelt save my ass?

You wear your seatbelt dont you?

Airbags were created to fit a government requirement of a restraint system that was independent of the drivers control. That way if you dont wear your seatbelt you wont hit the wheel

Ask kansas-IX about airbags and thier effectiveness.
          Im now E30less.

yup. I'd rather break my nose than have sodium azide burns scarring my face and potentially blinding me, or have the airbay deploy at the wrong angle and tear off a thumb.

Yes, both of those cases have been well-documented in first-generation airbags.

Airbags are for people that crash.

You aren't one of those losers are you?

Edit: That said, I would most certainly not be alive today if it was not for a airbag in my 96 VR6 Jetta.

I am going to replace my airbag wheel soon hopefully. I am just looking to here some more info on the e30 airbags before I make my decision.

I haven't heard of any terrible stories about the E30 airbag wheel.. plus I get an insurance discount with it. eventually though I'm sure I'll want a sport wheel. Right now though I want to keep the car in a state where I could sell it easily.

Yay, we can always count on Kris to come along with some random, obscure, highly graphic image. 8)

As for insurance, they would never know.

Insurance COs think I have ABS for some reason.

                              85. According to VIN generators I am supposed to tho. At least something keeps telling companies I have it. Not that I am complaining about the mix up. 8)
