HELP! 325i died and not starting!

OK I know theres a bunch of you motorheads that can help me out here... I have a 88 325i cabriolet. two days ago, the engine would die driving down the road, doesn't matter if I was accelerating or decelerating. I would turn the key off, and it would start right up and run fine. The next day, it ran fine to work, then I couldn't start it back up when leaving. Cranked it over forever, then finally started. Drove most of the way home, then died and WOULD NOT START. Towed it home, and it hasn't started since. If you let it sit a day or so, it will sputter when you first try starting it, but then nothing. I thought it was fuel supply, fuel pump buzzes when trying to start, replaced the fuel filter, nothing. plenty of gas came out when disconnecting the line from the fuel rail. Have spark. WTF??? What are my options since the local garage guys will rape me if I take it in for a diagnosis? HELP!

haha fixed. Just needed time for the fuel to soak into the new fuel filter. Started right up and runs great. Wierd thing is that this happened to my 95 318i cab 5 DAYS BEFORE and it was the filter also!

OK problem not solved. It ran great for a week and just started doing it again. I am nearly positive it in electrical. It died today, tried unplugging/plugging harnesses, jiggling looms, etc. to no avail. Finally I took out the three relays that are under that plastic cover in front of the fuse box (seperate) and knocked those around, and jiggled what looked like a fuel line with small compartment in it with a two wire plug into it, I believe it is fuel but could be air... it is located under the intake manifold. Car started right up. WTF? What are these?

the "fuse" is the connector for your ABS sensor

the 3 relays are the main relay, fuel pump relay, and O2 sensor heater relay. you don't need the O2 sensor relay to drive your car, so I'd swap it with the fuel pump relay and see if that helps - they are the two smaller orange relays, the main relay is the bigger white one. it really sounds like your fuel pump relay is dead.
