    my idle sucks

so one of the few issues I've had is my idle. it doesn't want to idle very smoothly - it hovers at around 450-600rpm, and half the time it dies. if I tap the throttle, when it comes back down it dies. I adjusted the throttle stop screw for now, which works, but now my idle wanders from 650-950rpm, and when I fire it up cold it starts at 1800+ rpm. it's driving me nuts!

I'm using a chip designed for an automatic (bavauto #500), so I'm thinking a new chip would solve the problem. I lost around 10lbs of rotational mass compared to a 5 speed, so it's probably even more compared to an auto - I'm guessing this has something to do with it too.

before I spend $200 on a chip that might not make any difference, anyone experienced a similar problem going from an automatic to a 5 speed? did you guys keep your auto chips, or did you get the 5 speed equivalent?

the stroker probably contributes some, but I don't remember hearing about anyone else having trouble with their idle.

    my ICV is brand new..

My car was like this a week ago. I just checked for any vacuum leaks and that was the problem i had 2 hoses lose. Tightened them up and now my car is running good. My car is stock manual though. Just check around for any lose hose or plugs around the bay. IDK if this helps but give it a try, that problem was bugging me because i couldnt even take my car out the drive way without it just dying.

Could be the AFM but i sort of doubt it. Have you disconnected the battery lately? That happened to me a while back also, i disconnected the battery and the car just idled for like 5 seconds and then just turned off. I just kept it a bit accelerated took it on the highway and warmed it up and then thats all it needed.

no it could not be the afm!
not if your tps is working properly
have u ever cleaned your icv?
take it off and clean it out with some carb cleaner.

if that doesnt work then check for vac leaks some more by spraying he carb cleaner around the connections on vac hoses, injector seals, intake boot etc.

Make sure your throttle position swtich is making the idle contact. You should hear a click when you open the throttle by hand under the hood with the motor off.

Common sense- It's the new 'gifted'

yeah, it's working fine. I spent a lot of time checking it out a while back too.. even bought a new one, but ended up not needing it.

all of this stuff has been replaced with new parts (before I even did a stroker). there are no vacuum leaks, although one of the TB nuts came loose and I got a really odd whistling sound from there, but it didn't affect the idle.

so ur using a new icv?
                    have u ever adjusted it?
im not sure but i think your car has the black one with no adjustment screw on the outside right?
the adjustment screw is on the inside
take off the icv and back out the screw like one or two full turns then reinstall it and check how it runs.

yeah, I didn't think the later style ICV had an adjustment. I guess I'll look into it..

how much did u adjust it? it takes like 2 or 3 full turns just to change it 250 rpm or at least it did for mine. id try cranking the adjusting screw alot before dropping $200 buckaroos on a new icv.
a used one is alot cheaper than that btw but it might not work much better than the original.
