Are there any benefits to convert to aluminum expansion tank design by VAC Motorsports? Based on my research, no. The major difference between the aluminum and BMW OEM is that a non-BMW radiator cap must be used.

Pretty sure that you answered your own question. Only real benefit that I could see might be that metal is less likely to crack, or perhaps the VAC tank has increased capacity.
