    Fuel pump question

    Hello
    I have a 318is that needs a fuel pump.
    i found a 1988 325is parts.
do they have the same fuel pump? I know the 318is has the dual fuel pump..
The car hasn't ran in 15 years he said hell give the fuel pump for 20 rather than 120+ new, is it worth a shot?
    Thanks in advance

Don't even, my friend. Cheaping out on fuel components is not a good idea. You're better off ordering a walbro or something, as long as it's new and fresh. That being said, I have an ebay fuel pump in mine  It was kind of a bitch to make it work, but she's getting all the juice she needs now

I have no idea. I would do some internet searching to find out. I would think you could just connect the wires right up to go, but I'm not sure whether the pressures are different. Especially since the 325 probably only has a single fuel pump. If you want to try it, go ahead. But don't have any high expectations going in

Pull your dead pump out, go look at the one you might buy, compare part numbers, connectors, etc. Or call you r local parts store with both models of car and see if their parts are the same as each other

They don't use the same fuel pump.

Chances are your in tank transfer pump is bad. People have been using low pressure alternatives from an older american car like AMC or something. I don't remember the name of the car but a search will help you find out. The external main pump doesn't go bad as often. I foolishly replaced both with OEM many years ago to the tune of $300+.

What I have done on my white M3 is converted from dual pump to a single intank walbro. There's a thread on how to do it as well if you search. The only downside to the conversion is the reducer hose that is designed for low pressure can sometimes split under the pressure of the walbro high pressure pump. I shortened this hose as short as possible and used wide hose clamps on both ends. It's been over a year and I haven't encountered any problems yet. The Walbro only cost me $70 but it must be adapted to work.

If ever in doubt OP, use realOEM.com to compare makes and models (either with vin or without). This will give you a semi good indicator of part compatibility. Also, if the car hasn't ran in 15 years or so, you most likely will have internal fuel tank rust that you will have to address in order to not kill your new fuel pump prematurely. Also replace the fuel filter and inspect lines. But to answer your question, no. They are not compatible.
