No teeth on a brand new e30 wiper arm?

My driver side wiper didn't work, and I found out that there is no teeth on the driver side wiper arm (The wiper motor is still working).

So I bought a new driver side wiper arm and I thought the factory wiper arm would have some teeth. However, the one that came in doesn't have any.
Here is the picture of the new wiper arm.

    Is this normal?

Yes it's normal. The arm is deliberately softer than the spindle so it will strip before the spindle. When you first tighten the nutnthe spline will cut in to the arm so make sure it's aligned before you start tightening

Thanks a lot. My wiper is working again just in time for the rainy reason in Seattle.
