    Help, what is this light?

Hoping someone out there knows what the red indicator light next to the parking brake light is, shown in the pic.

Also, what is the dial in the next picture control? I thought it may control the headlights or fogs, but can't seem to figure it out.

One last thing, I did all fluid flushes, and my OVERHEAT indicator is on, but my temp gauge is fine. There is enough fluids. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    service indicator

go over to BMWe30.net and look it up, it tells you how to reset it. it also means it's time for a checkup/tuneup.

as far as the overheat indicator, I have no idea. I've never even seen one before. perhaps a bad temp sender? or maybe you didn't bleed all the air out of your coolant?

the overheat light is probably for the catalytic convertor... if you have one.

Red lights? Service indicators that can be fixed by going here

As far as the other red light goes that's your wear indicator on your brake pads.

Thanks Nando and lordofthewaters for the red light on the cluster. I will reset as I have done a major service on this thing, including new timing belt and water pump, tuneup, all belts and some hoses, all fluid flushes, etc...

That's what I figured it was, and no, it does not seem to be working. Is there somewhere I can look to for a way to fix?

I do have a cat. converter. Why would that cause the light to go on?

I should clarify which red light I am referring to. I want to know about the one to the right of the parking brake indicator. I know what the lights on the left are for.

On my 88 325i, the light indicating brake wear is clearly labeled BRAKE. I have replaced the rear brakes completely, and checked over the fronts, and all seems ok.

Yes, that is in Km's not miles. My 88 has even less at 61k.

The light on the far left of the panel above the mirror says OVERHEAT. It is currently on and I am trying to figure out why. As you can see, the temp gauge is showing normal.

the sensor is shot? or its grounding out somewhere?

unplug the front and rear wear sensors and see if the light goes off.

                              Brake wear warning indicator

The red indicator with the six small triangles is the brake wear warning indicator. Check the left front or right rear brake sensors for wear. I had one wire rubbing my rim, the insulation on the wire was worn away which caused the light to come.
