    Performance chip downsides?

MarkD has a black friday sale through November on his chips (link)- essentially they are $35 off. I was looking at picking up a chip for 17lb injectors to run on 93 octane, but then I thought: will this make my car run hotter, make it less reliable, or in any measurable way adversely affect the car?

I guess I'm trying to make a very educated purchase. This car has been very reliable. It's literally been across the country and back after hitting 200k miles. I'd hate to compromise that.

I'm running a Sssquid 91 Oct, 19lb stage one kit. I highly recommend buying a chip. No downsides really. 17/19lb injectors are fine for stock m20. 93 is useless on stock e30s. I would go for 89 if there's a option. They don't need the extra additive. Your better off buying a 89 chip or whatever lower option you have and adding fuel additives every once and awhile. Will it make it run hotter? No.. Will it make it less reliable? Not if you maintain your e30. It will probably run better and a little more efficient with 17/19lb injectors because your most likely going from a one hole injector to 4. Hell if anything it will make the car run better and feel more peppy.

I mention the 93 because in my state we have 93 instead of 91. All good points

The higher octane is required by many of those tunes because they increase ignition advance. This allows for a bump in power, but if you run a lower octane tune after advancing the ignition timing you can run into detonation issues. Detonation is no bueno.

id go for 91 octane, a stock engine is low compression its probably not knock limited when in a healthy state of tune and good health. quite often on such engines using the lowest octane you can is the best bet. ive seen test between the markD 91 and 93 chips and the 91 made more power and torque. this was some time ago and i didn't do the test myself but its believable given when i used a 93 chip i saw same gains as what the markD 93 chip did as far as the rpm where gains were made

Quick question are mark d chips ecu dependent? Where would I go about getting 17 or 19lb injectors and how much better would they be. Looking for a tad bit more pep from my m20 nothing serious. Just a little edge against my buddy's

just placed an order for the 91 chip. We'll see how it goes!
