So I can hardly shift to 2nd at all. On the rare occasion that I can, theres about a millimeter wide window between not catching and catching. 4th is difficult to shift into, but still possible. 1st, 3rd, and 5th are all fine and dandy. its not like the synchro is broken, its like the "Catch" at the end of the throw in 2nd gear isnt even there. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe tranny mounts, but it seems like 1, 3, and 5 should also be effected if that was the case. OEM everything in the driveline, so its not those shitty IE bushings.

Check your linkage and make sure nothing shifted around. This was the same problem I started to experience when my selector rod started to break at the shifter link end. -
I bought my first e30 for $1000 because the owner thought the tranny was going bad. It turned out that the two bolts that hold the linkage to the tranny were just super loose. Tighten them up with an allen wrench and your good to go. make sure you use locktite though. I am 95% positive this is you problem if you have the older sheet metal style likage. You might have to lower the rear end of the tranny down a bit to get to them, it just depends how big your hands are.
