Shifter hits center console when i put it in reverse

whats the deal? my shifter smacks right into the center console.

could be that the shift console (not the console trim, the thing under it, just above the transmission in the transmission tunnel) is out of alignment and the nuts holding it in need to be tightened. mine does something similar with second and fourth. if the nuts are secure, check the shift rod bushings.

You shouldn't. And I think the console screws are accessable from inside the car once you remove the knob, boot, and insulation.

Also if its only in reverse, it may actually be a tranny mount. One of mine on a prev car was bad and when I replaced it, that rub went away entirely.
