    leak in trunk

just recently because of all of the rain, i now have a leak in my trunk. The leak is on the passengers side and it leaks onto the battery casing/cover. There are no holes/tears in the trunk gasket. But i looks like the water is getting in over the gasket. Maybe it has lost some of its 'spring' and does not make a tight contact with the trunk. is this possible? Any ideas? thanks

Probably the taillight gasket. Mines leaks in the same place.
    Keep on Keepin' on.

hhmmm my bimmer did that too when i first got it and washed it, i noticed some water on the drivers side where the jack and whatnot is located. so i noticed that the trunk wasnt shutting all the way. so i tightened that bolt that clips into the trunk mechanism to keep it shut, and now it shuts firmer and tighter and no more water leaks into it.

but if that isnt it, then listen to the other members and check your taillight gasket

Put one of your friends in the trunk and spray water on the leaky area. Have him watch with a flashlight while water runs onto the affected area.

Before you take your tail light out, check the body seam in the rain channel above the light. When you open the hood, the rain channel is the part next to the gasket, toward the outside of the car. That seam is very short, but if it splits, water will pour into the trunk.

The position of the seam will make you think that a tail light is leaking, so check it first. If it's rusty or split, that's probably the cause of the problem.

i had a problem where parking my car nose-first on a slant would cause water to build up in the corner of the seals and then spill over, yours could be similar.

Meh, you guys helped him more than you helped me, and I posted pics...

J/K but yea I will try some of those solutions, because I have MHW tails that have new seals, and installing the new inner-bumper seals didn't fix the problem either completely.

hhmmm, i now know to take extreme caution in installing taillights in the future, though it doesnt really rain here, but still.
