    Tie rod replacement

How do you know if the inner tie rods need to be changed? What makes them go bad? My outter tie rod ball joints are shot and they are causing a wheel vibration when you are turning at 50-70mph (on the highway). I think my control arm ball joints are going to but they aren't the (at least main) source of the vibration.

I am just going to replace the outter tie rods I think (Lemforder) to make it quick and easy, but maybe you guys need to convince me to do the inners as well?

My main questions lies with the alignment. My car was just aligned last summer. Couldn't I measure the length of the threads on each side of the car before I remove the old tie rod ends, then adjust the new ends to the same thread length and effectively keep the same alignment, saving me $60?

My opinion on the repairs is while youre there go ahead and cover all the bases. And in theory you coulkd measure and do it that way, but having the allignment done again is always a good idea.

I just did this a few days ago. Get the whole tie rod and change the whole thing. I could not even change one of the ends b/c of rust. That is common and even after heat and PB Blaster, it would not budge

I don't have rust under my car, and they were moved recently from the alignment obviously.
