    Rust?

How bad are these spots in the trunk? They're right behind the rear wheels.
Where else should I be looking? What do you recommend for rust prevention and removal?

    Thanks, all.

Some of it looks like it's just dirt, or maybe just rust staining and not actual rust. I have some "rust" in the same areas which is actually just rust staining, and not actual rust. I see one spot that looks like it might be a rust bubble.Clean it up, wire wheel it where needed and paint it.

Nothing to worry about. Clean it up and coat it with some POR-15.

consider yourself lucky; right there i have a gaping hole. I plan to weld in fresh new metal here in the next couple of weeks, however, it is a pain. I already had to weld in new floor pans. needless to say, i should have read up on rust prone areas on e30s before i bought it. I would take a wire brush to bare metal and lay a fresh coat over it, but i am paranoid now. the paint color does not need to be matched, seeing that it is not viewed with the trunk lining in.
