it obviously has to do with the bottom end but i haven't seen anything that looks like it will require this gasket.

i am building an engine almost from srcatch so i never pulled it apart to know what it is.

I don't have a PN for the individual gasket but i got from bavauto and the whole gasket set PN is: 11 11 9 063 134

"Bottom End Set includes everything below the head gasket: Oil pan gasket/s, Rear crank seal & gasket, Front crank seal, Lower timing case gaskets, Oil level sender gasket/seal, Water pump gasket, Any temp or press sender seal rings. If applicable; Intermediate shaft seal, Front seal retainer housing gasket"

so it may or may not be applicable to a M20B25 but i'd still like to know what it is.

Looks like a mistake. There are no gaskets on the M20B25 like that.

thats what i think maybe its for a 5 series M20 or a 325ix or something. I have contacted Bavauto to see if they can help.

Neither. The only difference on both of those motors are the oil pans and dipsticks.

that gasket is for the block off plate on the OLDSKOOL M20 B23/B20 there was a piece of crap that came out of where it is flat on the newer motors above where the desgnation is stamped in.
its slipping my mind right now what the piece of crap was that did come out of it. was on mostly e21s though.

That is a block off for a mechanical fuel pump. Some of the early M20
engines had carbs and a mechanical fuel pump.
                            It's just an extra part
