    electric fan and injectors Q...

i got an idea to remove the fan clutch and install electric fan instead, i think i could gain several HP-s, but is it recomended? and which cars fan should become a donor???

and question number two... will i get any gain through installing 325i injectors and maybe 3.5 fuel pump on my 318i ???

on my 87 325is I run only the AC AUX fan, no cooling issues at all, even in 100 degree weather. I have a switch on the dash.

How do you wire this luke? Just put a switch in line to the fans main power supply?

Nah, easier than that. I used the3 wires that USED to go to the fan switch on the radiator...remember the ghetto-ass wiring that runs over the left fender? (not the wires for the hood pop) And if I had a decent window cut off switch, I would use that as the fan switch.

I put an electric fan in my 318is and I am running it off the 91degree switch in the radiator.

But it very rarely comes on - when the weather gets hot here I have the a/c on which means the aux fan is running continuously - enough to keep everything cool.

The only time the electric fan comes on is if I am sitting in traffic stationary for 5 minutes or more - I live in the tropics so it can get quite warm here

I cannot iagine any M20 having enough room in front of the motor to fit a fan like that in, but I seem to learn more every day.

so does anyone know how to wire up the a/c aux fan to come on at a certain temp automagically? I deleted my fan clutch and a/c during the m50 swap so i'm planning on using the aux fan as my man fan. thanks

Yes with the M42 there is a truck load of room - 2 cylinders worth of room

Also with no ABS or cruise control - I can fit the air box in the front left corner. And with an IX washer bottle tucked away next to the firewall instead of the normal one, the enginebay looks almost empty....hahaha

it's already wired up that way. all you need to do is change out the temp switch for an E36 M42 and you're set (assuming your aux fan works to begin with).

i see thanks, i was always under the impression that it would only work when the A/C was turned on

325i injectors do not actually put out more fuel than 318i injectors, and upgrading the fuel pump definitely won't make any difference, since it's not a bottleneck.

So the short and direct answer to "question number two" is no.:D

Sorry to bring this back from the dead....

BUT, I have an electric m44 fan, and I'm having trouble wiring this thing up to the radiator switch.

So I am reviving this thread. If I run an electric fan instead of my clutch fan, is there a way I can have it turn on without running another temp switch? Do we have something that I can just tap into to make it work?

                              I have two questions:

1: Could I just use the A/C switch in the hvac head to turn on the aux fan when needed? Doesn't the aux fan run anytime the a/c is on and would this work considering I pulled my compressor and lines?

2: What kind of setups do people run as far as mounting the fan after seperating it from the condensor?
