Bosch Platinum +4s... WTF!? A other Spark Plug Nonsense.

Ok I was cleaning out my garage and ran across 6 bosch platinums (Non-+4s) that someone had purchased probaly for one of the uglier bimmers at my house. So I decided to wash my air filter and throw in some new plugs since I noticed my car was claiming 19mpg the other day and thats with a chip. Well after all was said and done my car feels noticably slower with these plugs and since I can't race any of my friends right now I can't tell if its real or I'm losing it. Also when I took out the old +4s which were running much better in my opinion I noticed oil on the 1st and 6th plug but the other 4 were dry... I just had this motor rebuilt should I go sue someone?

Did you gap the "new" plugs before installing them?

How long ago was it rebuilt?
What was exactly included in the "rebuild?" You could have a couple leaking valve seals, or leaking piston rings, call your lawyer
I would put the plugs that came with the rebuild back in, and take it back to the shop. with complaints of poor performance.

everyone says to just run plain old bosche supers (about a buck a piece), and that anything more is "bad" or doesn't run as well.

you can't cap +4 plugs, they come gapped from the factory.

that said, they don't work well at all in our motors. just stick to the OEM Bosch ignition parts for the best results.

Right, but he said that he took out his +4s and installed the ones he found (non +4s), you can gap regular bosch platniums.

duh, I guess I didn't see that he said non +4s.. that's what I get for posting when half asleep :P

well in that case, installing a random set of spark plugs doesn't seem like a good idea either, and I've still read about platinums not working very well in our cars.

years ago I wasted money on those stupid "split fire" platinum plugs for my '67 Dart.. those things sucked ass. I never replaced them but I bet OEM plugs would have worked better. not saying the bosch stuff isn't good, just not in our old motors..

              Hmm

Well the old +4s worked sooo great in the car, after I put them in I could rev to 6900 without any bucking or surging in the car. I'm going to clean off the +4s and put them back tomorrow. But I'm very concerned about that damn oil. The car doesn't leak any but now I know where that quart of oil went you can't even smell it burning. Also the new plugs were all gapped to .28 or whatever from my bentley manual.

20w50 and Platinum +4s Are the way to go until everyone else gets a turbo.
