Sounds like a gear drive timing setup (which is kind of cool).
if you want to be pointed and laughed at for basicly trying to pull off a supercharge whine, the only good things about gear timming is it exact and precise, otherwise imo they are just noisey and annoying.

How could it be your diff if it makes the noise while the car is at a rest?

A supercharger whine or gear drive whine are the epitome of testosterone. The sound, real or not, is a cool sound. If that very distinctive sound from an automobile doesn't immediately catch your attention and potential respect, you are not a true motorhead.

The whine in the video is also rpm dependent. Obviously the whine has nothing to do with the diff or the tranny. As Jonathan said above, the diff or tranny won't be making any noise while the car is parked. An rpm dependent noise has something to do with actual engine (crankshaft) rpm which would include accessories being driven off of the crankshaft. My first guess, like many others have elluded to, would be either a belt driven accessory or the timing belt. If I couldn't isolate a more specific location of the noise, I'd start by removing accessory belts. If that isn't it, I'd then move to pulling the timing covers, inspecting them for possible rubbing, then check the timing belt path including the intermediate shaft (oil pump pulley). Turning the crank by hand, with the timing covers off, you may be able to hear or see a potential hazzard of rubbing somewhere in the timing belt area.

I don't know what sound a bad pilot bearing would make; therefore, I can not comment on that. I doubt it would be the starter. If the starter teeth were still engaged in the flywheel, your starter motor would probably be burnt to a crip by now. If the starter was only partially engaged, enough to just touch the flywheel, the two metals rubbing together would most likely vibrate, which would sound more like squeeking brakes.

It is really a hard call without better isolation of the noise; but, there are only so many things that it can be.
Don't forget the good things Hitler did.
