    help im lost

this is prob a dumb ? but i just started working on my own car. i have an 86 325e and it wants to cut off whenever i push the clutch in at low rpms. for instance if i was in line at a stop sign and i needed to pull up, i can pull up but when i push the cluth in it doesnt want to catch idle. it only does it at low rpmw tho. thanks

Did you recently disconnect the battery? The ECU takes some time to reset and relearn.

      yeah

for like a week i had to disconnect the battery b/c when i was turning off the car power to my radio, turn signals, and wipers was staying on but i got a new hazard switch and fixed that. but that is about the time all this started happening now that you mention it. so i just have to wait now pretty much?

Usually just starting the car and letting it idle for a bit will take care of it.

Maybe give the idle valve a good cleaning and adjustment. On that car you can raise the idle by backing out the screw on the valve a bit.

yeah i will try that and a guy at the bmw dealership told me it could be a vaccum leak

If you suspect that vacuum leak, then spray carb cleaner around anything that looks like a vac line, i.e. around the throttle body and intake mani and even around the brake booster where the master seats in. (etc etc)

ok i just put a new idle control valve on and the car stoped cutting off on me but its still idleing funny. the response in the throttle is alot better but when im just sitting at a stop light it jumps in between like 5 and 7 hunderd rpms. i tried adjusting the valve with the screw but it doesnt help. any ideas.

Sounds like a vaccum leak. Check the hose that attaches to the valve cover it is a very common suspect.
