Where does the tach get it signal from?

Does the tach get the rpm signal from the crank sensor or somewhere else? Think my clutch is slipping at 4500+ when I step on it.Tach Revs rise slower but the engine sounds like it is spinning faster.

TD signal comes from the crank sensor.

It gets the signal off the pulse sensor connected over spark plug wire #6

The inductive pickup on the plug wire is used for cylinder identification only, not for engine speed.

I have an aftermarket (read, BIG) tach - wired off of the ignition coil. That's one place where you'll get your speed.
