Is there a difference between the engine/wiring harness/ecu from my 1987 325is and the same assy from the 1989 325i? I want to do a swap but am concerned about the plug and play issues.

i think they are swappable. I'm pretty sure 87 is the 153 ECU while 89 should be 173 or something -
Yes they are different but completely swappable. the 87 harness has exposed connectors for the injectors while the later harnesses have a bar that ties the injector wires into a harness that terminals at a circular connector under the intake manifold."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
