Tomorrow is looking to be the "warmest" day on weather.com's 10-day forcast - high of 31 - so it looks like tomorrow's the day to get dirty with the car. I don't have access to a garage at school so I'm thinking I'm just gonna take over a few spots in a parking garage and camp out.

I picked up a new fuel filter and will be doing a long needed oil change. I read about this shit called sea foam, it's supposed to clean out everything in the fuel line and engine internals and such. I'll give that a try, I've read it just smoothes up the running all around. I got some of that carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks as suggested above, and I've still gotta pick up a spray bottle to check the ignition wiring. The trusty Bentley detailed testing the AFM - except I don't have a fucking multimeter cause UVM ordered the cheapest shit possible for us aspiring electrical engineers to waste our money on . Atleast I'll check the mechanical functioning of it if I can't come across a multimeter.

This is mostly off topic for this thread, but does anybody have any tricks for re-aiming the windshield cleaner spray-things? Mine overshoot the windshield beyond any kind of usefulness. I tried a paperclip I had lying around but the holes are way too small. Maybe a sewing needle?

Im not sure if you read my thread or not but Im having similar problems. I just got a new fuel filter and I bought a can of sea foam. When it gets a little nicer out Im gonna work on it. After I do these 2 things Im gonna check the AFM, than its on to replacing the fuel pump...

PM Nick325is he has a way to check and fix the AFM. Let me know if your car runs any better after the filter and the foam. Goodluck!

LOL, all I can tell you is don't use a toothpick. Doesn't work and causes more problems. :weak:

To do the Seafoam properly, get a big clear bottle (like a Gatoraid bottle), and fill it with Seafoam. Use the vacuum line that connects to the fuel pressure reg., disconnect it from the FPR, and feed it through. You'll probably need a second person to rev the engine to help keep the car from stalling, as it will start trying to stall.

Once the clear bottle reaches 1/4 left, tell the person to stop revving the engine, and wait for the car to keep taking in Seafoam until it stalls. If it doesn't stall (sometimes it can cause problems), make it stall.

Once it's stalled, let it sit for about an hour, then take it out for a drive. It'll run like shit at first, but just keep running the car at different RPMs until it smoothes out.

Also, make sure you don't have the engine hex bolts. They can fly off when doing a hotsoak and fuck your shit up. They should be replaced with torx bolts. I don't remember the year of your car, but they were changed in the '88 production cycle (I think). It's pretty easy to check--take off your oil cap, look down in the head, and if you see hex bolts, get them replaced. If they're torx, your fine.

Good luck man, and let us know how it goes. I've been wanting to do a hotsoak for awhile, but it's been so cold (like, 0 degrees F) that I didn't want to chance cracking anything with the stress.

use a bic pen, take it out of the casing and use the opposite end of the pen (side that does not write) to re aim the wipers .
