    m42 belts

i did a brief search but im going snowboarding tomorrow and need to get this done asap, i was driving on the highway when all of a sudden my e-brake, check engine, and a couple other lights just turned on, i look under the hood and the radiator fan isnt spinnging and i notice that the alternator belt is also missing, i asked the shop for a belt that goes over the alternator and fan im assuming its the same belt on the m42, but since there is no belt on there now i cant tell how to route the new belt onto the pulleys, also does the other belt have to come off?

Yes you have to take the belt for the P.steering off. Not too complicated. Here's a pic. (not mine - hope the OP doesn't mind)

it seems like i have two belts down on mine, im assuming for the A/C, is there some sort of idler or tensioner that can be loosen to get these belts off, i dont see how they are removed, on my old pontiac it was just a big ass wrench to move the tensioner and slip the belts on and off

        Hey that's my M42! :)

See on the top of the alternator is a large bolt with a crank. You can loosen that bolt and rotate the alternator to loosen the belt and give you slack.
