    valve cover cleaning

Not like all the other threads...so help me out.

I bought a painted polished valve cover from a person on ebay - I was slightly taken I see....

The valve cover is horrid with oil residue / buildup under it. It is flaking off and I want to know how to clean it (what product).

The paint looks great - so I really do not want to harm the paint.

The polishing looks horrible - so I need to polish it better, I know how to do that.

So what is the best product to used on the underside of the valve cover. I am freaked about using a "grease off" because this will go back on a motor at some point. Maybe simple green? Anyone?

brake cleaner and a stiff plastic brush

don't waste time on degreasers or any crap like that

be sure to wash your hands afterwards :D

of course it might take off some of the paint.. but honestly it's not that hard to repaint a valvecover with a spraybomb. maybe test a small spot of the paint with the brakecleaner to see if it affects it at all first. but breakcleaner will definitely work best at removing the crud on the underside..
