    RPMS drop too slowly

Hi, I just got done replacing my starter. I ended up cleaning some electrical contacts while I was at it.

After starting her up, I noticed that after I applied the throttle and let off, the revs would drop VERY slowly, stop, drop slowly, stop, until it hit the idle point.

Is my ECU just trying to get adjusted or is something else to blame?

hhhmm, sounds puzzling. did you mess with any throttle linkage or anything? maybe bend a bar when you were moving around, causing the problem?

Well, I checked the throttle cable and it seems to be fine. I get the same response whether I blip the throttle from the cabin or under the hood.

          Np. Thanks anyway.

Btw, I'm also getting hesitation off idle if I press the gas too hard. Dunno if this is related.

could still be the throttle linkage too tight or the throttle set screw holding the throttle open some, but if you didnt mess with the throttle linkage at all then its unlikely that it would have changed

Santiam Pass been there. Silver Falls are awesome.
A shredded wire inside the throttle cable can do it, especialy after an old one has been moved around.

Check your idle control valve. May be time to clean that thing.

Yeah, I second the ICV. How does it idle otherwise?

Check all your connections and wiring, make sure you didn't pinch wires or leave anything unplugged.

I highly doubt it's the throttle cable or linkage, if you actuated the throttle body from under the hood you would see it return to close very slowly instead of snapping back.

Thanks guys. I cleaned out the connections on the ICV, and after about 30 minutes of driving, it's back to normal.

Also check your throttle cable for binding especially at the firewall. Sometimes the shielding cracks at bending points and exposes the cable. I've had it happen to me twice.

Don't just clean to conections, you need to clean the inside of the ICV itself.
