    Euro Ellipsoid light output issue...

As some of you may have seen in my recent pics, I have the Euro smoked ellipsoids (Hellas). My question to anyone who has the Euro's also is this:

does the light output seem to really drop off closer to the car than you would expect? When I turn mine on without the fogs on, the output doesn't seem to be THAT bright/far, even though I am running 100W Osram H1's... I have upgraded my wiring, so I know they are getting the juice needed. Some people I know with shitty sealed beams or whatever seem to have better visibility, a farther reaching beam. Perhaps I should just aim them a little higher, but i don't want the cutoff to be at someones rear-view mirror level, cause that wouldn't be very nice, hehe. Any input would be grand guys, thx.

C'mon Jordan, I am hoping you have SOMEthing to say on this one... other than you think my Kosei's in 15-inch form are ghey :P hehe

they're just aimed too low. been messing with mine for a couple weeks, they still need to go up a few degrees.

the reason they seem like they stop so short is because the cutoff is sharp, instead of being diffused like sealed beams.

Yeah they are projectors so the beam should be down the road. I dont have as much light right in front of the car as standard US lenses I see but mine shoot much farther down the road. This is with the lights actualy pointed slightly down from which is recommended, by a couple inches at 20 feet.

One thing I noticed while driving the 330i with the HID is my beam pattern is excatly the same (Except for the higher cutoff on mine). I can even point out the hotspots too, they are identical. Except for the "adaptive" part I dont think the technology has changed much.
          Im now E30less.

I think the next time I pop the hood I'll just aim em up a bit.

The HIDs use better bulbs and can put out more light but they still use the same reflectors as normal lights that cause the patterns and spots.

Well, he took some super blue coated ricer bulbs, but because they're coated blue, they suck up a lot o flight. rather than change the filament and gas composition (the manufacturer), they decided instead to overdrive the lamp. Normal 9005/9006 bulbs are around 55W. He was running 100W bulbs. The current didnt melt the housings, but the heat produced did.

                          And now he's surprised

                          What a fucking moron.

Same experience here with 100w H1 Rally bulbs (not ricer ones) and after a year I saw my light pattern was much smaller then my other cars, so I examine the whole ellips and saw that the silver coating was disapeared
so don't use H1 100w bulbs in Euro Ellips also

(btw pre 88 Euro lights havn't that problem)

Wow, did they melt your high beams too? I was thinking about getting some euro ellips and already have some 130W H1s that I currently use as highs in my AutoOptiks housings...wouldn't want to melt an expensive housing though.
