psloan, it is most likely the first one. I have an '87 and that is what is in my car. My car is 05/1987, if that helps you.

What would cause a heater to not blow hot?

1990, okay, I assumed 1987 because that is what your profile says at the moment.
If you go on RealOEM.com you will see that the second diagram you posted has some parts that are specific to Canada, etc. I would guess that you do not have this version.
You can remove your the cover behind the intake located on your firewall and look behind it in order to see what blower motor you have. The cover comes off by removing only 4 bolts and 2 nuts. It's not hard.
