    overheating update/ question

I bled my system still I have the same problem, when idling the car overheats and the coolatn light is on, pop the hood and the coolant reservior is full and go to bled and coolant is there too, but the top hose coming from the raditator is full of air and so is the water pump bypass, so how do I get this air out and is this all that is causing my car to overheat or are there other coolant system issues, replaced the auxillary fan over the weekend and did the fan clutch 3 wks ago. thanks for your time Bryant

you must not be bleeding it properly. When you drain/refill the coolant system, you need to have the heater controls all opened with the temp turned all the way up. after you fill the system, you need to start the car and use the bleeder valve screw to let excess air out of the system, and top off the resivior as needed. the whole proceedure is oulined very clearly in the bentley manual, if you don't have one get it!

I know I even go by the raise the front end up method to get the air up to the bleeder valve

Might be a daft question but are you waiting for the thermostat to open ?

Is both of the radiator pipes getting hot ?

it could also be a bad thermostat.. or if you just changed it, maybe it's in backwards?

Feeling lot of pressure in hoses?

If yes, headgasket is leaking pressure from cylinders into coolant system and need new headgasket.

Everytime I drain my coolant and refill it, I turn heater all the way up, open bleeder screw, and put antifreeze until it starts to come out of the bleeder screw, when it does, I close bleeder valve tight,I start motor, wait until it gets hot, and after 3-4 times bleeding it until it starts to flow clearly, I close it, repeat it like I said 3-4 times, and thats it.

Take out your thermostat and see if it still gets hot, it might run little bad but you'll find out exactly if its thermostat.

not the thermostat boiled the stat and it was fine. no no not the headgasket really? damn it, I only have 241k on the damn thing. Did repeat the bled letting it idle till hot and then bleeding but the coolant is there and in the reservior to it.

Any oil in coolant or vice versa?

have been checking those as my father in law has been worried about the headgasket because of my symptoms, and there is no coolant in the oil or vice versa, oil looking like dark honey and coolant still incredible hulk green and pure, no brown residue or anything.

Your're sure the temp gauge sender is good, does the gauge rise smoothly to hot?
Try running it with the cap off, and the heater on hot. There shouldn't be a problem.

temp gauge is working just fine, I have some more info if helpful, I drive 30miles each way to school and on the highwy it run, below half get off the highway and get to a stop light, and the lights can't be long enough, the gauge just slowly climbs, now that I replaced my aux. fan over the weekend I kick it on, and the car will slowly cool back to halfway mark. And around town the higher the rpm the cooler she runs, if it starts to get hot I downshift and run the revs in the 3's and it cools right down. I know I still have to do the recall for some coolant thing could this be a source?

                          You installed another electric fan?
Hows your fan clutch by the way? Is it leaking at all? When the car overheats, is the fan on the water pump doing its job? or just spinning slowly?

l replaced the fan clutch 3wks ago, I didn't do it though I was on a road trip to denver and had the dealer do it, to ease the parent concern you know, so I know it was done right.

And no it is not another fan, I just kick the A/c on to get the aux. fan to turn on to pull more air through the engine to cool it down when sitting still, it was all I could think of to battle the heat, I hate ever seeing the gauge above half.

Ok it was replaced, have you monitored the fans operation when idling while hot?
                              How are your belt tensions?
Did you use straight coolant, or a 50/50 mix?
