    Valves are adjusted... Valves still Noisy...

    So it is a new head. Completely rebuilt... Valves are still noisy...

    Adjusted valves(many were loose)

    Still gets noisy... noise is able to be heard when stopped

    What to check next? I need to quiet them down. It runs like a bat out of hell and seems to have all the power of any other "i" car. Head has like 600 miles on it.

    How cold was the engine when you did the adjustment? Needs to be stone cold.

    Also, the injectors on these things tend to be "ticky" - sure its the valves?

      It was dead cold. As in sat for 2 days. It really sounds like it is coming from under the valve cover.

      I will pull the cover and start her up, see what is going down.

      Anyone else?

        they will always make some noise.

        but, your eccentrics could be flatspotted, which would cause them to go back out of adjustment. how loud are they?

              Wait a while before you get too worried, if everything is new it's all got to break in a little bit. Not saying that's the reason for the noise, but just give it some time.

              If the engine isn't completely warmed up, the valves will be noisier than normal. Just check your clearances every week or two for the next month and as long as they are ok, you won't have problems.

              There is a saying, and this applies to BMWs, Alfas, and whatever else is out there that uses similar valvetrain design. Basically, the valves are supposed to tick, if you don't hear them ticking, something is wrong.

                  Just so you know, if you pull the valve cover and start it you are going to have one BIG vacuum leak.

                  Mine was making enough noise that I pulled it and took it to a machine shop to have it checked. I'll also have them fix the broken stud that holds the timing cover on.
