When were e30s equipted with Bilstiens from the factory? Are these comparable to HD shocks?
Thanks
Stu
They never had bilsteins from the factory. OE shocks were sachs/Boge. Bilstein HD shocks have different valving. They will be stiffer and offer more of a sporty ride compared to a factory shock.
The '87 iS (and eS I think) had bonafide Bilstein dampers. No idea on the valving, but I seriously doubt they would be anywhere near HD and Sport valving (read: harsh).
When I took the rear Bilstein shocks off my 86 325es, I have no reason to doubt they were anything other than factory, as the said they were made in West Germany. They had almost 200k on them.
