    Stock Bilstien years

    When were e30s equipted with Bilstiens from the factory? Are these comparable to HD shocks?

    They never had bilsteins from the factory. OE shocks were sachs/Boge. Bilstein HD shocks have different valving. They will be stiffer and offer more of a sporty ride compared to a factory shock.

      The '87 iS (and eS I think) had bonafide Bilstein dampers. No idea on the valving, but I seriously doubt they would be anywhere near HD and Sport valving (read: harsh).

        When I took the rear Bilstein shocks off my 86 325es, I have no reason to doubt they were anything other than factory, as the said they were made in West Germany. They had almost 200k on them.

          My 86 325es has oem Bilsteins they are marked BMW and Bilstein.

          87 325is had them also the factory ad listed them in it also. I would say they are slightly softer than HD/Sports.
