    Oil Pressure Light on Dash

So day 1 of the 2 day consists of smoking my tails and corners. They are drying now. The side markers front and back don't like VHT at all. Huge pain in the ass and it just forms puddles. So I got a paint brush and had to spray a bit then brush it on. Blow it dry so it would be come stcky.

Fronts and Tails look great. The Sides not so much. Might run Smoked Fronts and Tails and then find some OEM sides or find smoked ones somewhere.

    Anywho.

The oil pressure light on the dash is supposed to come on in Key position two. Mine did not so I went and bought 20 of those little instrument cluster bulbs. I am going to replace them all. So I take out dash. Find that some of the bulbs are moved around. Some burned out etc. So I replace all of them and move a known working one from my high beam to the oil pressure. Plug it back in.

The light still does not come on in Key position 2. Does this mean the sensor and/or wiring is toast? I really want to get this fixed so I can drive the thing with some type of oil pressure warning :) Going to get it on a lift tomorrow for a suspension rebuild :)

    Thanks guys!

You're probably right, bad sensor or wiring. The wire going to the sensor is very thin. You could always get an oil pressure gauge and nto bother with the stock sensor.

But having had that light come on, I think that is one of the single most important sensors on your engine. The only gauges that have warning lights built in are high dollar gauges.

I would get an oil pressure gauge. Get an sending unit that has a contact for a warning light. Then either wire that up to the light in the cluster, or just get a new light and put it in one of those black pieces by the hazard light switch and defrost switch. Then you'll have a warning light AND an actual number of what oil pressure is.

The oil pressure sensor is located close to the distributor in the M10, i guess it should be around the cyl head in all BMW engines, check that wire, if it's ok, remeber there is also a fuse for it.

I checked it and it looks like the sensor is bad.

I will prolly convert to a gauge. Anyone know a sending unit that threads right into the old hole?

m12 x 1.5. I dont think a sending unit has enough room. Go to parkerperformance.com They have adapter blocks for that. I was planning on using one until my radiator started leaking.
