    Water Leak Help With Pics!

So I looked through everything on leaks in the convertible on the forum, but I dont really know what I'm looking at so I figure i post and someone who knows what they are looking at can tell me what is wrong.

I knew it leaked before, so I pulled the carpet out, and finally it rained here after a week. Here are some pictures of where its leaking. Any help to diagnose the problem would be appreciated.

    Places of leak
    - back of the passenger side, coming from the edge show on the pic, seem to be a drain leak, but dont know which one.
    - under the rear seat behind the driver, seems to be seeping from the other side, test it out, and it seem to be coming from the passenger side
    - drips from the passenger side, at the end where the back seat backrest meets the quarter panel, and bottom seat, shown in pic. Its dripping out, around the same pace that water is dripping in from the top. to where it meets the convertible top trim. So I figure its a drainage issue, but dont know where.

    HELP!!!!

I can't see the pics at work but first impression would be one of two things... either sunroof drain (if you have a sunroof) or window seals. Do how are the front & rear window seals? Are they old and brittle or new and soft? How are the side windows? can you see water leaking in?

hey, I checked all the seals, none are leaking. Its a convertible, so no sunroof drain etc. I sat in teh car when it rain so I see the leak coming, but I can tell where it is coming from exactly.

How new is the top? The person that works on my car told me, and he has been around and has had his shop for over 20 years, that you will NEVER (stressed never) make our tops stop leaking. They will always leak.

I was told that I need to get the main seal (top to windshield frame) replaced and all the other seals around the entire top replaced. If the seals haven't been replaced completely since the car was made, all of them need replacing.

On some of the random spots, which mine had. There are some things that have to be considered. First off, if not a new top, look at how tight the main straps are (right above your head) they should be pretty damn tight. If they have slack in them, random rain drops can ride those down to different spots and be let off at different areas of the car. One way you can check this is to open your top. Flip the front part up like you would to loosen the top.

Look at the bottom (or the top) whatever you would call the other side of the strap and see if there are white marks. They will be in various locations and patterns. Check how far they go down the car.

I have replaced the top and put new straps in. Mine still leaks in the front (need for all seals replaced) which will be fixed eventually.

Also, look for holes, small holes-large holes, you might have some. If this is the case time to save up for a new top

            Hey MAst
Thanks for the info. Its not leaking from the top. Cause I sat in teh car when it started leaking and saw the water come out. ITs not coming from the top. One question though. The edge by convertible that is next to the convertible top storage area, my top drips to into the convertible top storage. I'm assuming htere is a drainage in tehre. If there is then it has to be leakin from there.

I'm remembering that the drainage to which you refer is under the top hinge mechanism, so it's hard to see.

yeap, forward most area under the hinges.
there should be a small hole there for water to run off.

there's a whole bunch of other opening and cutouts in there,
as well as a gap on wheel well to inner 1/4 panel areas.,
that's whereabouts water was pouring through to under
rear seat and rear carpet feet area.

I used duct tape and sealed most of the extra holes and seams,
so water redirected it self to the inside of the driver side 1/4 panel. you could hear it,
splashing as if in a pool, and a visible trail of it as i took right hand turns.

issue was the exit ports (2 per side) on Rocker Panels were clogged up.
so inserted a wire hanger from underneath car at front and rear spots,
now water channels out as it should.

in conclusion, water will get in there, just late it out.

look under rear carpet area too, there's sponge like material under it,
it holds plenty of water, there's also small tabs on the floor that
you can undo so area can drain out/ventilate it self...

here's my Zinnno ic taking a peeh :)

                  Frank,

A search for posts related to convertible leaks turned up this thread. I'm having the same issue as the original poster - passenger rear carpet wet after a rain on my 92 iC. I looked for the drain outlets on the rocker panels and cannot find them. Where should I be looking? How large are they?

Also, are the small tabs in the rear floor you mentioned visible/accessible from under the car, or do I have to take up the carpet to get at them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my beautiful 18 month old top is starting to smell like mildew because I can't keep the moisture out of the car.
