    door lock cylinders

I just bought another e30 and the key will not lock the vehicle. The key will turn but it will not catch to lock the door? Also theykey will fit into the trunk but will not turn at all. Any suggestions? thanks Matt

originally E30s came with several different keys - master, valet, etc. it's possible that you don't have the master key.

that is a possibility. Do you know what i could do about the doors not locking? How much do they cost from the dealer. I would hate to go to the dealer though. thanks Matt

A locksmith is always helpful. They can look up the codes based on your vin and cut you the exact key. Also consider that maybe the ignition has a new cylinder and it does not match the other locks. The only reason why your key turns partially in the door is because the tolerance of the wafers inside of the lock become sloppy as the lock wears out over time. So even though it is the incorrect key, you can a partial turn.

Out of all of the keys, the valet key is the only one that has a different cut. That key is designed to work the driver's door and the ignition. The only difference is that it will not open the trunk and glove box.

I had to get a new key made because my old one broke. and the new key wouldnt work the trunk or the doors, but will start the car. so i just jammed the broken piece into the hole of the trunk. and use the broken key to turn and unlock the car.
